Development of new underfloor heating system for REHAU

The Challenge

REHAU were developing a new underfloor heating system for the residential new build market. Research was required to gain views of Housebuilders and Architects to the new approach, including identifying preferences, benefits and drawbacks of three potential versions. In addition, information was required about Housebuilders’ use, decision processes and perceptions of underfloor heating.


The Approach

A two stage research programme. Firstly, two focus groups with Housebuilders and Architects were held where their use of underfloor heating was described and the new system options were shown and discussed. The outcomes from the focus groups helped develop a questionnaire for a stage two programme of telephone interviews with Housebuilders for views from the wider market.

The Outcome

The results from the research enabled REHAU to choose the most suitable products and design for the system and continue development to take the new product to market, including the messages for the marketing communications. The end result was the successful launch of “REHAU Easy Heat” underfloor heating, which has been very well received and was recently ‘Highly Commended’ in the Best Services Product category at the 2015 Housebuilder Product Awards.
